Nick Reiner asked three odd questions to Hollywood party guests hours before parents were murdered

Nick Reiner was asked to leave a Hollywood party the night before he is accused of killing his parents after he allegedly walked up to the A-list guests and asked three bizarre questions.

Yesterday (16 December), Nick Reiner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, accused of killing his parents Rob and Michele Reiner.

The California district attorney Nathan Hochman revealed that the specific circumstances of the case mean that Reiner may be facing the death penalty.

He has been accused of killing his parents with a knife in their bed, with multiple sources reporting witnessing an argument between Nick and his director father Rob at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the night before their deaths.

Nick Reiner’s past issues with drug addiction have been well documented, leading to a strained relationship between the pair that eventually became the focus of a film written by Nick and directed by Rob.

At Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party, multiple reports have come out about Nick that indicate bizarre behaviour from the 32-year-old.

The Hollywood Reporter stated he had not been invited, but his parents had asked that he be allowed to tag along, with many attendees intimidated by Nick’s 6”3 frame and bizarre demeanour.

Bill Hader, SNL alumnus and Barry creator, has been connected to the story as Reiner supposedly interrupted him mid-conversation and, when informed it was a private conversation, stood staring at him for an ‘uncomfortable’ amount of time.

The Wall Street Journal reported that this was part of a wider set of odd behaviour in which he went up to attendees and asked each of them: “What’s your name? What’s your last name? Are you famous?”

This was a question he reportedly asked names as famous as Hader and Jane Fonda.

After his behaviour began to unsettle guests he was reportedly asked to leave and, shortly after, Rob and Nick Reiner were seen having a loud public argument over his behaviour.

Rob and Michele reportedly left shortly after, the last time they were seen alive.

An exact time of death has not been ascertained by coroners just yet, but reports state it could have been as early as the Saturday night after they returned from the party or the early hours of Sunday morning.

The next day Rob’s masseuse visited the home for an appointment and, when they were unable to enter, called daughter Romy Reiner who lives across the street.

Romy is the one who found her father’s body, running outside and asking her roommate to call 911.

Heartbreakingly, she reportedly did not know her mother had died until she was told by paramedics.

Nathan Hochman said of the horrific case: “Rob Reiner was a brilliant actor and director, an iconic force in our entertainment industry for decades. His wife, Michel Singer Reine, was an equally iconic photographer and producer.

“Their loss is beyond tragic. We will commit ourselves to bringing their murderer to justice.”

He also claimed that ‘no decision’ had been made about the death penalty.

Legendary director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Hollywood home last night, with it being reported that their son is being questioned by police.

Whilst Nick Reiner, 32, has not yet been arrested or charged in connection with his parents’ sudden deaths – which is believed to be an ‘apparent homicide’ – this horrific news has sent shockwaves throughout the film world.

Reiner was responsible for directing iconic films such as When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, The Princess Bride, and found fame with a whole new generation later in his career as an actor in projects such as New Girl, The Bear, and The Wolf of Wall Street.

One film he worked on, however, has come to the forefront following his death – a movie Rob directed and was written by his son Nick about their family’s troubles.

Called Being Charlie, the movie is an autobiographical story about Nick’s struggles with drug addiction and homelessness.

Nick co-wrote the script with a friend from rehab, Matt Elisofon, and the Reiner family reportedly approved of the film.

The film follows a fictionalised Nick, Rob, and Michele, with Rob in the film being a celebrity actor who is now running for governor.

At the end of the movie, Rob’s stand-in character apologises to Nick’s, something which the real-life director stated had happened and was owed.

Speaking to the LA Times at TIFF, where the film premiered, he said: “When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen. We were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.”

In the same interview, Michele said: “We were so influenced by these people. They would tell us he’s a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.”

Nick himself said: “I got sick of it. I got sick of doing that. … I come from a nice family. I’m not supposed to be out there on the streets and in homeless shelters doing all these … things.”

The movie has gone viral on X following the deaths of Rob and Michele.

One tweet posted the trailer along with the news that Nick was being questioned by police, saying: “This is the trailer for Rob Reiner’s Being Charlie. A deeply personal film co-written by his son Nick, drawn from Nick’s years battling addiction. Reiner later said, ‘What I didn’t understand was the depth of what my son was going through’. A father trying to truly see his child.”

Rob and Michele’s deaths were confirmed by a spokesperson for the family, saying: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner.

“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Trump has issued the grim statement on Truth social about his death

President Donald Trump has issued a response after the death of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, with many online slamming the politician as ‘disgusting’ for his statement.

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their Hollywood home today, with TMZ and the New York Post reporting that their son Nick is in custody in connection with their ‘apparent homicide’.

Whilst many have paid tribute to the pair, including Stephen King paying tribute to Rob after he directed two films adapting his work, Trump has instead decided to take aim at the late celebrity.

Trump posted on Truth Social stating that Reiner’s death was ‘reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome’.

His full post reads: “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.

“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

Rob Reiner was well known for his commitment to left-wing causes in America, even at one point considering a run for political office.

Reiner was a liberal advocate and Democratic party member, acting as a co-founder for the American Foundation for Equal Rights.

He was also an outspoken critic of the President, telling Variety: “Donald Trump is the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States.

“He is mentally unfit. Not only does he not understand how government works, he has no interest in trying to find out how it works.”

Trump’s post has sparked criticism online, with one popular reply on X saying: “What the actual f*ck is wrong with this dude?”

Another said: “Stopping to another level from DJT, let the dead live in peace.”

No arrests have been made by the LAPD at the time of writing however there has been no indication that Reiner and his wife’s deaths were in any way related to their criticism of Trump.

Tributes have flooded in for Rob and Michele, including from President Barack Obama.

He said in a statement released earlier today: “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele.

“Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen.

“But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action.

“Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose.

“They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”
