Injured and scared dogs found abandoned in NJ: police

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – Multiple dogs were illegally dumped and abandoned in New Jersey Monday night, and officials believe there still may be other injured and scared dogs running around.
Police received reports of several abandoned dogs near County Route 619 in Stillwater, Meadows Road in Lafayette Township, and Clark Road in Wantage Township, Sussex County.
The dogs, which are Chihuahua mixes, were physically thrown from cages and abandoned, police said.
Troopers believe the incident is linked to previous incidents in which dogs were also abandoned, as the dogs share similar appearances and characteristics.
About a dozen dogs have been contained. Many of them are scared and injured, and are receiving care from a veterinarian at the Wantage Township Animal Shelter, officials said.
Local shelters are asking drivers to slow down, stay alert, and watch out for more stray dogs.
No arrests have been made, police said.
Anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or has information related to the dogs or the individual(s) responsible is asked to contact the Troop ‘B’ Sussex Station at 973-383-1514 or the Sussex County Sheriff’s Crime Stoppers at 973-300-CRIME.
